a sentimental icon set fall 2023
set of ten icons that explore the loss of a companion 



My goal with this project was to demonstrate how a significant companionship can alter how we see life when that companion is no longer nearby. As a result of distance, I find that a strong appreciation for loved ones forms. This aspect of life is truly beautiful. Distance from loved ones can be uncomfortable. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to look within.

I chose a charcoal brush stroke for my symbols to demonstrate the rawness of companionship. This brush stroke gives a rustic aesthetic which mirrors the rustic journey companionship often brings. I depicted “the companion” with just strokes, no fill and placed them in the background. This treatment communicates that while they are not physically present in our life, they still appear in our lives through the form of memories when performing activities that were previously done beside them.
